Within a context where the experience economy compels museums to transition from service provision to the staging of memorable events, this study seeks to bridge the dichotomy between the 'physical' and 'virtual' museum. The primary objective is to demonstrate that the integration of mixed reality technologies is not homogeneous; rather, it facilitates differentiated immersive exhibitions based on the virtuality continuum and the visitor's level of interaction with the environment. Consequently, this research establishes a taxonomy of immersive experiences encompassing contemplative immersion, active atmospheric immersion, and hyper-immersion, thereby providing cultural institutions with the strategic framework necessary to ensure sustainability within the contemporary museum ecosystem.
