Aims & Scope

VISUAL Review is a scientific journal published by the non-profit cultural association Fórum Internacional de Comunicación y Relaciones Públicas (Fórum XXI).

The journal aims to promote research and scholarly reflection in the field of visual culture. Its scope encompasses the study of the ways in which culture is produced, represented, communicated, circulated, and interpreted through visual artefacts, languages and products, including painting, print publications, photography, film, television, video, advertising, digital environments, and cyberspace, as well as scientific, informational, and journalistic images.

From an interdisciplinary perspective, VISUAL Review welcomes contributions from the fields of communication, the arts, the humanities, and the social sciences that provide original and relevant knowledge for understanding the practices, narratives, technologies, and phenomena associated with contemporary visual culture.

The journal publishes research articles, critical reflection articles, systematic reviews, and book reviews. It also welcomes proposals for the coordination and publication of thematic or special issues related to its subject areas.

VISUAL Review is a bilingual journal. All articles are published both in their original language and in a translated version. Spanish is the journal’s official language, although original manuscripts in English and Portuguese are also accepted. Articles submitted in Spanish or Portuguese are published together with an English translation; when the original language of the manuscript is English, a corresponding Spanish translation is provided.

Beginning with Volume 19, corresponding to the year 2027, the journal will adopt a continuous publication model. Articles will be added individually to the annual volume as they successfully complete the different stages of the editorial process. All content is published exclusively in electronic format and is made openly accessible immediately upon publication.

Manuscripts undergo an initial editorial assessment and, when they meet the journal’s scientific, thematic, and formal requirements, are evaluated by external specialists through a double-anonymous peer-review process. This procedure preserves the anonymity of both authors and reviewers and contributes to ensuring an independent, rigorous, and well-founded assessment.

Manuscript presentation, in-text citations, and bibliographic references must comply with the guidelines established in the seventh edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA). The application of standardised editorial and bibliographic criteria enhances formal quality, interoperability, visibility, and the effective dissemination of articles through databases, catalogues, repositories, and international scholarly information systems.
