This article presents a quantitative study on the level of media competence among journalism students from three Chilean universities. A questionnaire validated by the Alfamed Network and adapted to the Chilean context was applied, based on the model proposed by Ferrés and Piscitelli (2012) and structured into six dimensions. The analysis, conducted with Jamovi, included reliability tests and descriptive and inferential statistics. The results show a medium overall level, with strengths in language and interaction processes, and weaknesses in technology and aesthetics. It is concluded that this competence should be strengthened as a curricular axis in journalism education.
