The Spectacle of Spending
Influencers as Identity Mediators in Gacha Games

This study analyzes the visual mediatization of gacha mechanics on Twitch and its influence on digital identity. Employing a mixed methodology, 16 hours of footage and 42,000 messages from four top-grossing games were examined. Results reveal a visual architecture of environment annulment that focuses attention on chance mechanics. The study concludes that audience size shapes the normalization of spending, macro-communities legitimize it through status and irony, whereas micro-communities rely on intimacy and shared victimization.
