This study addresses the popularisation of vertical video formats on social media designed for its use on mobile devices, exploring the implications of this shift. Through a review of the literature, the study links this aesthetic evolution to the one that happened in cinema with the emergence of panoramic formats in the 1950s, as well as to pictorial and photographic portrait formats, in order to connect the rise of the 9:16 aspect ratio in social media with the emergence of selfie culture and the glorification of the body
